You may have heard of it...Christmas in July. It happens. Last year, during our church's Love Week, we made Gingerbread Houses at the Boys and Girls Club...in July This year, Jonah and I packed boxes for Operation Christmas Child...in July.
Then, we were at the movies (to see Incredibles 2) and we saw a preview for The Grinch (a remake). Seriously. In July! So Christmas in July is a thing, it really is. What better month than July (halfway through the year) to start thinking about what you'll put in your man's stocking???
I love the magazine, Real Simple. Occasionally, I'll open one of the 432 emails they send me, filled with ideas on how to organize, the latest gadgets I must have, and the road tests on everything from batteries to mac and cheese. As if I've had time to read the stack of magazines from the past three months currently occupying real estate on my desk. Anyway, recently, I opened an email to discover some really cool gadgets, small and affordable ones, that made for perfect stockings stuffers. I started to peruse these emails, looking for inspiration. And then I started ordering things, and keeping them in a secret stash in my closet.
When December, no strike that, October rolls around (it gets earlier and earlier every year it seems) and the stores start playing holiday music, my kids begin talking Christmas lists, and my heart is having palpitations because my to-do list has grown exponentially, I dutifully shop for all the people--the family, the friends, the teachers, the neighbors...you get the picture. SO many people to remember. By the time is comes down to the stockings, I am over it, and don't have any creativity left in me. The kids are easy though--some candy, a new pair of $14 Elite socks (insert eye roll), itunes gift cards, a few packs of gum--and we're set. The husband, though? He's trickier. So, I decided to let Christmas in July be my reminder to start stockpiling for his stocking. That way, I am not scrambling two days before Christmas, unable to order anything because it will not get here in time, and unable to find anything on the picked over shelves at Target.
So, here are my first four purchases (and hopefully he'll stay away from this particular blog post)...
Pour-Over To-Go: Ok, this one is sort of a joke, seeing as my husband doesn't drink coffee! But most husbands do, and this is such an insanely cool idea! Perfect for camping, hotel stays, and lazy Saturdays. Maybe he'll share it with me. :)
Flint Retractable Lint Roller: A lint roller that retracts and only sticks to what you want it to--DOG HAIR, lint, dust...YES PLEASE! This is seriously one of the smartest gadgets I've ever seen.
Magnifying Light: Let's face it, we're not getting any younger. This LED magnifier is not only super cool looking, it is perfect for reading fine print on everything from the medicine bottle to the teeny tiny directions on how to change the batteries in the latest toy. I have a feeling it'll come in super handy on Christmas morning.
Tommy Johns Underwear: Kids may not be overly thrilled with underwear in their stocking, but when your man receives the gift of Tommy Johns, he'll never go back. Take it from me. Clink the link for 15% off your first order.
Christmas shopping in July? You'll thank me in December.
